Buildings with history:

The La Asegurada Museum houses the private collection donated by Alicante artist, Eusebio Sempere, and features many of his works as well as the works of other important artists such as Juan Gris, Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Chillida, Tàpies, Vasarelli, Kandisky, etc.

The Castle of Santa Bárbara stands out as an important feature in Alicante’s artistic heritage and is located next to the sea, on the peak of the Monte Benacantil. This monument can be reached by an indoor elevator, located opposite the Postiguet beach and 300 meters from the hotel. It offers wonderful panoramic views and houses a world-renown collection of contemporary sculpture: The Capa Collection.

The Santa María Church is the oldest church in the city; its construction began in the 14th century. While it was built in the gothic style, the church also boasts rich, Baroque style ornamentation and a Rococo style altarpiece.

The San Nicolás Cathedral was built in the 17th century. Worth noting are the cloister walls and the Communion chapel, a jewel of Eastern-Spanish Baroque architecture.

The Ayuntamiento (City Hall) Palace was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. Its lovely façade is flanked by two towers of original design.

The Santa Faz Monastery is located just 5km from Alicante. It also belongs to the Baroque style and houses a piece of cloth which is claimed to have been used to wipe the face of Christ as he walked the path to Cavalry. This artifact was brought to the monastery from the Vatican at the end of the 15th century.

The MARQ (Archaeological Museum of Alicante) is home to the most important collection of archaeological remains from Prehistory to Medieval times which are exhibited with complete explanations.

The recently inaugurated MUBAG (Museum of Fine Arts) exhibits County Council’s art collection and features a noteworthy collection of 19th century painting.
